Hi everyone,

Last week the councils recycle crew damaged my car by dropping the box on the front wing. Further damage was revealed where they clipped the front bumper corner making a getaway.

I have gone to 3 places (all recommended by folks on Pistonheads) to get quotes and they are:
  • Southern Classics (spoke to Steve Berry) - Over £850 to repaint wing, bumper TBC
  • County Coachworks Kingston (spoke to Mark) - £360 all in
  • CPR (spoke to Louis) - £350 to repair bumper, £400 to repaint wing
Going through insurance maybe a no-go as our cctv was blocked by the van, and the cctv on the van may not have picked up the damage - so that would rule out Southern Classics. This leaves CC and CPR.

Both are hesitant removing the indicator lamps (which are NLA and £700 each used) and bumper. CC will attempt removal (accounting for 67% of the labour) while CPR will mask and feather in the lacquer.

My question is which would you recommend going to?

An alternative is Spray Works in East London who I've seen from this thread.

Thank you

I can recommend Baileys Coachworks also in Kingston. I’ve used them a few times, most recently was to repaint my roof which is a tri-coat white pearlescent paint. I was a bit worried how it would turn out as it’s a nightmare to match pearlescent but they did a really good job. Was about £500 a couple of years back which is very reasonable.

I used County Coachworks twice, 5- 6 years ago. Then they were very good, and keen to get perfect match on tricky to match paint- Mazda Velocity Red

I thought about doing this but unfortunately the patch area is too big, also given its 24 years old I think the new paint will be obvious (as sun shines directly on it)

Not sure what the discussion is here,by law you have to mitigate your losses, i.e carry out the repairs at the lowest reasonable cost.

You have obtained 3 quotes from reputable repairers, one of who says they can carry out is a full repair for £360.

If you choose to have the car repaired that costs more than that, then you can only claim a maximum of £360 as you know the repairs can be carried out by a reputable repairer for that amount.

Thanks for reply. They’ve actually now come back to say the £360 is just the bumper and doesn’t include the wing so I suspect they’ll add another £200.

I just wanted to know whether the prices seem reasonable for the work needed (as I’ve never needed the services of a body shop before) and if possible anyone had first hand experience of the two?

(I completely understand you get what you pay for and Southern Classics would be best)

It's stil up to you to choose which you think will likely do a suitable job - that may not be the cheapest.
The insurer would prefer you did that rather than chasing them up to get it fixed again in a few months.
Why no main dealer in there?

Price seems reasonable to me, my father recently had the roof done on his old c class Merc and that was £400.
Generally a bonnet alone used to be £300 ish.
