Hi all, I'm going to be painting some panels and could do with some advice.

Firstly, preparation: can I use sand paper or does it have to be wet and dry? What grit of paper should I start with and what should I finish with? Can I use a machine (random orbit sander) or does it have to be done by hand?
Secondly, primer: what is the best primer to use? How many coats of primer do I need to apply? Do I need to sand the primer down before applying the next coat?
Thirdly, painting: how many coats should I apply? Do I need to sand the paint down before applying the next coat? What techniques should I use?
Finally, protection: should I use an enamel or other finish to protect the paint? If so whats the best product to use? How many coats of the product should I use?

Any advice on products to use or techniques on how to use then would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

It takes plenty of experience, skill and expensive equipment to achieve a good finish on a car.

Find a local small bodyshop & get a quote.
You could ask them if they would be happy with you prepping the panels, but I expect the answer will be 'No'

If you still want to DIY it all then, as others have already suggested, spend a lot of time watching youtube 'how tos'.
