Gloss disappeared after wetsanding
Discussion
Hi all, I have a Volkswagen Golf.
Someone dinged it and dented the paint and chipped off the paint (unfortunately I didn’t take a pic) in a car park.
I touched it up with Halfords touch up paint and wet sanded it down using 2000 grit and then 2500 grit sand paper to make it smooth (wasn’t applying too much pressure with it).
I then sprayed it with Halfords clear lacquer.
It now feels slightly different to the standard glossy bits on the paint.
Got the dent pulled out but when looking at the car from an angle in the sun you can see the shine has gone.
How can I get this shine back?
Have I taken off the clear coat?
I’ve been told by SMART repair companies that if they respray it, the paint might react.

I tried doing the same on my family barge. I failed. The reason was it was slightly damp in the air when I sprayed the clear coat and this caused it to be slightly misty . No amount of machine polishing could bring it back to original.
Try machine polishing working your way down with the different compounds, but if that fails you’ll need to see a professional.
My 1 pence worth :-)
