Sometimes it's the only way to get at the back of the dent.

Paint & when dry apply the vaseline & refit the grommet sounds fine to me.

Something like this with a fine needle on it would be ideal. Then you can paint over with a body coloured touch up if wanted/noticeable

Depends where the hole has been drilled, if it's an internal panel then minimal preparation will be required, but if it's an inner wheel arch for example, then you may want additional protection such as a wax/underseal type of product.

Used isopropyl to clean and air dry, then laid on the paint and clear coat thick as it's hidden under grommet.

Probably just keep an eye on it!

It will outlast you and other parts of the car are likely to render it scrap long before it becomes a problem. I wouldn't waste any time thinking about it. You've done all that you can.
