I'm taking my car to a car show for the first time in years. The show will be a 30 mins drive from my house and could well accumulate some road dirt/bugs etc on the way there. I'll be cleaning the day before, but whats the best way or products to use when I'm there? I was thinking some kind of waterless wash? Although I haven't used any of these products before, so any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Assuming it's not gritty, some kind of quick detailer is all I would use.

I used to use quick detailer, applied quite liberally over any flies etc. For any shows slightly further away I would take containers of filtered water to give it a quick wash over first.

As above, a bottle of detailer and a couple of clean microfibres and you'll be fine... unless you're entering a concours competition.

I did a few concours events. They are hard work ! Weeks preparing the car before the event, a VERY careful drive there, top to tail clean of the car, empty the car and boot of any crap, give it a hoover then loiter near it waiting for the judges and to wipe off any errant fingerprints. Then watch the judge checking every single part of your car to ensure it is correct and spotlessly clean. White gloves to check inside wheel rims anyone ?
Then finally relax, put everything back in the boot again and wait for the results and pray it doesn't rain ! Show and shine was much better as it wasn't quite so anal, but after a few years the enjoyment went out of it and I sold the show car and bought an old Land Rover. Mind you, I have started polishing that lately !

I've never entered one, and have no desire to... having watched people picking blades of grass out of their tyre treads with tweezers, I know that's not for me laugh

Guilty laugh Cotton buds were used on occasion too.

Ha Ha, I can remember one guy jacking his car up and wax polishing the underfloor and wheel arches. His car looked like one of those models you saw on a Earls Court Motor Show stand, That`s just crazy.

My Merc` SL has had a good wax polish, is under a dust sheet in the garage ready for a show on Sunday. All I will do when I get there is clean the brake dust from the wheels, may be bugs off the front and the screen? .

Get a good rinseless wash. You can dilute these many way to make up many different types of products from a quick detailer to a waterless wash, to an interior cleaner, to a clay lube etc, etc.

You can get ones that don't interfere with your wax, like Griot's Brilliant Finish, ones that have some wax in to boost some shine/protection, some that are incredibly powerful cleaners like Feynlab Pure Rinseless. ONR is a good all rounder.

Great value and extremely lubricated which is what you need to avoid damage.
