Can this be fixed or is a respray needed?
Discussion
Hello,
After some advice with a paint issue on the bonnet of my daily car, a 130i. Basically the paint on the bonnet has gone as you can see in the pictures. I’m assuming it’s had a fairly poor respray in the past and the lacquer has gone but I could be wrong.
Just wondered if this is possible to recover and if so how best to go about it? Or is it a case of better to get the bonnet resprayed? It’s my daily car so don’t want to spend a fortune but given it’s a fairly uncommon 130i I’d
Ike it to at least look decent. Rest of the car is very clean.

Thanks for any advice you can provide!

Thanks for the feedback. Finally got a bit of spare time and managed to do a two stage cut (meguiars cutting compound) and finish (meguiars finishing wax). Still wasn’t 100% but certainly way better than it was.

However a week or so later it looks as if the oxidisation coming back again in the same places

Bit of a novice at this, is there something I’ve missed? Wonder if I should have applied a different wax?
Help appreciated as always chaps!

Polishing is just removing a tiny amount of the top layer of clear coat. If you see it worsening again afterwards then I would say there is likely a defect in the clear coat, likely from a previous poor repair.
In these situations it may need stripping and respraying, a body shop will be able to provide a proper answer and likely run a depth gauge over it to confirm if it has more paint on the area than the rest of the car.
