Is this a good idea or is he asking for trouble?

It might remove some of the polish /wax but that can be easily fixed.

Best fluid for removing tar or rubber is 99 octane petrol. But again rinse it if afterwards

I've used it to clean grease off if I had nothing else available. Some of the Land Rover fraternity use it to polish their cars.

Got a lot of glue residue from old sign writing off my van with it 2 years ago and never had any bother smile I heard mixed things but went for it in the end.

Thanks for the replies. I was told that you shouldn't get it on tyres and thought it might cause problems on paint.

Use White Spirit for tar marks, cheap and does not harm the paintwork, just wash it off afterwards.
