I have a 2016 Autotrail Delaware Motorhome which is in generally very good overall condition. We are the second owners.

However, the large rear panel which is some sort of plastic material, has lost it's shine and gone somewhat dull and flat. It does look better for a polish with a generic car polish, but it's nowhere near as good as the rest of the van. I think it's probably because where it's parked the back of the van get's more of the sun, but that could just be coincidence.

Also, as the shine has disappeared, there are now some shadows on the panel which show where the previous owners had some stickers and it's annoying. I applied a sticker myself to draw the eye away from the shadows, which has improved things, but recently they have become more prominent.

What's the best product to use to bring the panel back to a nice glossy finish? As it's not a traditional car type paint over steel, I'm wary of using anything too aggressive, so hope that the experts on here can provide some advise. Thanks in advance.

Image below to show rear panel, although you can't see the shadows in this light.

Will likely be a plastic panel with a gel coat paint on it. Polishing won't make much difference if it is UV damage.

I'm afraid there isn't much you can do with that type of thing, maybe have it painted over but you'd need to talk to a bodyshop. I suspect leaving it as is will be the best option.

Could get the flat rear panel wrapped. Would look better and would protect what is there.

That's a good idea. Wouldn't be too expensive but might be too big for single sheet wrapping for most which may add complexity.

If it's gel coat it can be machine polished.
That's what I'd try first,go to a friendly body shop, shouldn't cost much and if that brings the gloss back follow up with a good wax

You can get cleaning products that restore faded gel coat If not from a caravan supply shop, then try boat supply places.

Yup our Autotrail Mohawk did exactly the same, if you rubbed your hand on it there was white on your hand. We spent a lot of time in France with it and nothing could be done apart from repaint, any products used will look great but it’s back to square one within a month.

Thanks all for the replies - quite like the idea of getting the centre panel wrapped.

Did a bit of YouTube surfing yesterday and came up with a series of products that are specifically aimed at boats, camper, caravans etc. to restore, polish and seal the affected area. The reviews were pretty good so going to give this a go first as I have a rotary polisher and it's a large flat panel so easier than something with lots of curves and shapes.

Will post some pictures of the results and then see if it lasts or becomes something I have to keep doing a few times a year.

Farecla products are widely used on gel coats etc and are excellent.
