So I have a lovely old Honda Accord, which is quite cosmetically tatty. I'm looking to do a basic respray at home

The car is worth buttons so I'm not looking for a concourse finish, and I'm not going to pay a bodyshop. I just want to smarten it up and I'm quite interested in having a go myself for the satisfaction

I hope I can draw on the collection wisdom of PH and ask a few daft questions

- I'm looking at a 50L compressor. I know that mobile sprayers and 'Chips Away' type folk use that size. I think I'll be ok if I take my time and go a panel at a time. Thoughts?

- Spray guns mostly come with various nozzle sizes. I can't quite work out the relationship between nozzle size, air pressure, and air volume delivered (CFM?). Is this a case of trial and error?

- My car is B92P Black. Is there any reason that I can't just buy some universal Black 2-part paint? I'm planning on going over the whole car, so won't need to worry about blending it, and I can't see it being a massive issue if the door shuts and under the bonnet are a very slightly different shade of black

- Parking sensors. Can I sand them? Will I need to be concerned about paint thickness?

There are probably all sorts of other things I haven't considered. I'll continue watching youtube, and would appreciate any other constructive words of wisdom

As long as you are prepared for a st job, just go for it. Plenty of searching YouTube for technique. Do practice on something beforehand. Be prepared for cockups which take hours to rectify!

I decided to roller paint my old van this year. I was quite pleased with the result.

Prep it as best you can and practice your technique. Don’t try and paint too much in one go and keep the layers thin.

It’s a skill, the more you practice the better you will get at it.

Consider getting a lvlp spraygun (low volume low pressure) if you only have a 50L compresser, check out Underground Paint King on Youtube, he uses a Sprayit sp33000 gun but these are usualy sold out on the likes of ebay and amazon, i got myself an Aeropro r500 off aliexpress, cost me just under £30 and is exactly the same spraygun as the Sprayit 33000, oh and it came from China in just over 6 days with the free standard delivery option.

Im no pro but you would probably need a 1.7 nozzle for primer and a 1.4 or 1.3 for basecaot and clear.
There are cheap sprayguns online with 2 or 3 different nozzles so you only buy one gun or you would probably get away with just a 1.4 or 1.3 nozzle if you only get one.

My advice would be to just have a go on one panel and dont be too worried if it doesnt look great, give it a couple of days to harden and then flat and polish with a DA and you will be surprised by the results.
It is a very time consuming job though painting a car so dont think you can do it in a weekend.

I am midway through respraying my landrover. It is a learning exercise. To do a not completely st job is quite a lot of work.
