I took my car in for its big service today, and as it was close to needing a top up of Ad Blue for the first time, I asked the dealer to fill it up. Their price was actually pretty good.

However, upon collection, there was Ad Blue crystals on the bodywork and over the rear wheel. The Ad Blue filler is with the diesel filler.

Pretty poor that they left it like that. I spoke with the service manager who was very apologetic and got it cleaned off.

No big deal, but will having Ad Blue on paintwork, tyres or alloy wheels for around 4hrs cause any long term damage / corrosion? I'm assuming not, but want to check. I understand it is corrosive.

Thanks

Good to hear. Assumed it was a non issue but thought I would check.

It's basically 30/60 ammonia/water mix so you were right to be concerned. However if the paint looks okay having been cleaned i think you're alright.

Complete nobs for spilling it and leaving it on there though.

I don’t think you are being Over The Top to wonder about this.
It’s very easy to be blasé about someone else’s stuff.

Thanks all.

I’ll give it another wash down today in case. Looks ok right now. I have it in writing from the service manager about the issue in case problems arise at a later date

It's essentially synthetic piss, so I'd imagine it is mildly corrosive if left on paintwork.

It shouldn't cause a problem.

It can be fairly common for the car to be washed before if its in the workshop depending on the time of day its worked on and the dealer.

Adblue is as good as clear until it dries and crystallises. Not impossible to be missed.

Yeah but a lot more concentrated, unless you seriously need to drink more water!

Its not too much to ask to have your car returned in the same state it was dropped off. Its just annoying. I remember picking my car up from BMW and it was covered in dirty finger prints inside. I know its not the end of the world, but not much to ask either.

I split some down the side of my transit 6 months ago, it’s still there and hasn’t damaged the paint nor the plastic trim around the doors

Exactly. I think the service manager got my point and offered a free valet which I declined. He did say they get lots of cars in with Ad Blue down the side and I told him that doesn’t make it right. I’ve taken very good care of my car and if I did it myself (which I should have) there wouldn’t be any on the paintwork and wheel.

I was it down again and all looks ok. I think it’s fine but if anything does corrode I have an email from the dealer accepting liability.

I think you’re overreacting tbh. If you’re worried about what is effectively wee on your paintwork, wait ‘till a pigeon craps on it.

Main dealer glass palace service? hourly labour £100+, yes i too would expect better standards from the workshop.
Messrs bodgit & scarper, hourly rate £30 in the hand? more easily forgiven.
