Evening All!

As the title suggests, thanks to a d**khead in a pimped out BMW cutting across me on the M1, I received a projectile to the windscreen which left me with a lovely chip. Sitting in the sun, I guess the glass expanded as a crack about a foot long appeared on Saturday afternoon!

There's another thread on this with no conclusive opinions on it, but has anyone in the UK used a major chain to have one of these replaced? Advice on the last thread was to ensure that a MOPAR genuine was provided and to be sure they understood the surround fittings need to be replaced too.

I am a bit loathe to leave my lovely Abarth with a high street name windscreen replacer, but would appreciate if anyone has positive experiences or could recommend someone.

I'm based down in Bucks.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Is it being done on your insurance? If it is then they'll dictate who it'll be. My Abarth is a 595C but my Mitsubishi needed a new screen last year. It is apparently scary expensive & needs its auto wipers/headlights & accident avoidance recalibrated. Needless to say AG screwed it up. It goes into the main dealers next Friday for them to fix/investigate it as required.

Depends on the policy and the wording.

AG have said they work with my insurer direct (Admiral) and it will be covered subject to usual excess.

The cost is quoted around £3k without insurance.

As far as I can see, the screen should be removable without impacting the wipers, as they are solidly mounted on the lower skirt.

From reading I’ve done, it’s a possible DIY job if you’re confident, ensure the right adhesive and follow the sealing fitting and curing times precisely.

I’m competent at mechanics but not sure about that one.

How old is the car?

Wife needed a new windscreen last year, and we said we wanted OEM - Admiral said that they would only do OEM for cars under a certain age. I can't remember the age (her old car was well outside it) - but I think it was only a few years - maybe 5.

Another example of how modern cars are so expensive when they need stuff doing.

Windscreens, with radars in etc, calibrations, trims, huge dealer labour rates.

Love the two 124 Spiders I had, but stuff like this puts me off another.

It used to be four; it's now three-years.

In doing so, they acknowledge relevance of warranty.

She is a 68 plate, so that would mean 6 years old.
