PPF on 8 year old porsche 718 cayman
Discussion
Might be a question down to personal opinion, but is it worth applying full Matte\Satin PF to an 8 year old porsche 718 cayman? ive got the intention possibly keeping the car for 3 years minimum. Given the fact in 3 years time the PPF would be guaranteed still, would it help increase the selling price?
Im in a bit of situation at the moment, bought a 718 cayman advertised with full satin PPF with some light scratches here and there, only until bringing it back home I was told its not PPF its a vinyl wrap (confirmed by a PPF specialist when I went to get a quote to see if existing scratches could be corrected).
I guess I could be in my rights to request a full refund but I suspect even that might be tricky so considering options. Dealership trying to tell me a wrap is a type of PPF, but that just isnt the case, a vinyl wrap is a completely different product and doesn't really protect the paint and is more cosmetic.
They have indicated they might contribute a small amount to have the wrap taken off and re wrapped in new PPF. Trying to work out if the extra cost to me would be worth it, later down the line when reselling or just try and stick my ground and try and get my money back for the car.
thanks

I think you are absolutely right, it comes down to personal opinion and taste, and what's right for you.
I'm a custom painter so you won't be surprised to read that I absolutely hate the stuff! I think its nothing more than a marketing dream, selling you 'magic beans' and is purely designed for dealers to upsell. But, I'll never afford the type of cars you are talking about.
For me, it doesn't protect against dents and deep scratches, and once it is compromised it needs to be removed to rectify. For the price it costs, you could bank the money and pay a decent painter to keep on top of any minor damage for a decade and still probably come away with change.
If it is a track car I can see the benefits, but if it's a show car, enjoy the blood, sweat and often tears that has gone into giving it that original finish. If you came to me for a paint job and told me that after all my work you was going to cover it in a bit of plastic then I wouldn't be taking on that work personally, that's not the kind of client I want.
But, as per the opening line, that's what makes this so great, difference of opinion and the individuality of the car world makes it such a great scene, and its a lovely car you have got there regardless!!
