3m protection film blooming

Hi all

Had some 3M protection film fitted a few years ago when I had my TVR painted, but over the last few years its become dull and has a kind of bloom to it.
If I get some really fine 3m finishing compound I can get rid of it, its like a wax over the film thats gone off. Dare I used pre-paint on the film to remove the wax or is there a better safer way?

A paint prep panel wipe type product may be worth a try but be careful, may be better to get the advice of the installer to be honest.
