stripping the chassis down on an old (1987 E plate) TVR i bought so far so good just surface rust from the outriggers about 8 inches in after that still totally sold with the factory paint protection and loads of waxoyl.
whats the best stuff to use?
i was going to apply a thin coat of smooth hammerite, leaving the tin in hot water to thin down and make application easier then 3 or 4 coats of thinned waxoyl.
Some people are saying POR15 is better than hammerite?

Hammerite flakes off in little crescent chips. I think all it does is cover over rust with very little surface adhesion, even a well abraided surface.
POR 15 is very good and seems to have much better panel adhesion qualities.
I used to swear by Jenolite, I believe that it is harder to get now, Jenolite Double act is a heavy solids epoxy based rust inhibiting primer.
To get a good job I would thoroughly sand off as much rust as possible, then use Jenolite, then overcoat with POR 15
Every one always has a better method though. and you still cannot beat shotblasting and powder coat, but obviously you are repairing localised areas only.
