Hi everyone,

I'm new to PistonHeads (because my boyfriend said I should join up) and not sure how all this works because I'm a girl. However, my question is how do I wash my brand new car (it's not a naff one either a honda civic type r (aka noisey shopping car) without scratching the paintwork and putting swirl marks in the paintwork, I already use meguiars car shampoo (not fairy liquid) and a woollen mitt but I was wondering if anyone has any good tips for wahsiong and drying? Also do I need to wax my new car yet?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies x

Welcome!
Wouldnt class myself as an expert but....
1. Rinse with clean water (loosens dirt).
2. Wash down using your mitt etc.I do a section at a time...
3. Dry thoruoghly using clean chamois or better still decent terry cloth.
4. As your car is new, dont think you really need to apply anything other than a decent quality polish and wax. as you are using Meguiars shampoo, would suggest you seek out their Gold Class Wax. Check out The Polishing Company (they advertise on here-check directory mebbee?).
Hope thats of some help!! There are many knowledgable geezers on here who will no doubt show a line or two soon....

Dave.

Have a read of this guide:

I'd recommend using the two bucket method if you want to prevent swirling the paint work (micro scratches). A car with no swirls is easy to get looking great.

For a newbie I'd suggest a decent shampoo (like Meguiars gold class as suggested), and Meguires 3 step. All available from Halfrauds. Claying would also be a good idea.

Hope this helps

I'm amazed no one has corrupted this thread with info like the best finish is achieved naked with a soft part of your body!
