I need to be able to cut 16ga cold rolled mild steel. If I can get a tool that'll do 14ga or even 12ga then so much the better. However, I don't have the money to be spending on a Beverly throatless shear. Are these mini bench shears any good? (like this one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dl

I have a jigsaw, but for cutting out large sections I want something quieter and more efficient.

Have you considered asking a local sheet metal company? Most will do small cutting and bending jobs for a few quid.

I hadn't thought about that, thanks.
