Hi all,

We have a triumph Spitfire which we painted a couple of years ago. Basically it is time to sell, and the paint has deteriated over time, although it does come up nice after a lot of elbow grease.

i'm after a cheap polisher to take care of this job, I tend polish my car by hand. Any recommendations, and where I can buy from?

cheers

Polisher is a loose term

As somebody who I assume hasn't used a machine before I would recommend one of three options

1) Stick with a hand job
2) Buy a Cosmo off ebay (about £40) - basically a battery powered polisher, it won't do defect removal, but you could apply a paint cleanser and a wax with it
3) Buy a PC from the US (about £180 all in all) - a random orbital polisher, has enough power to carry out defect correction with the correct polishes, probably too expensive for what you want.

If 3 is too big a step to take I'd stick with option 1. Something like Autoglym Super Resin Polish by hand, followed by a good wax is a good combination.

ok, thanks for the advice. We have done half of the boot lid, but its taken probably 1 hour of polishing to get glossy. I'll persevere - good excersise!

The Silverline polishers off eBay (about £45) are rotary rather than random orbit, but serviceable. They last one of our techs about a year before they need replacing. We tend to use them on new lacquer rather than swirl removal on factory finishes, but they do the job - might be the thing for an enthusiastic hobbyist?

Halfords are currently selling a mains powered random orbital polisher for £15.99. Might do the job and at that price certainly worth a look.
