evening all.

the last owner of my car didnt seem to be bothered about looking after the paintwork and as such, its covered in tiny, light scratches. ive used autoglym paint renovator and wax but this hasnt really removed any of them. the car looks fine at 6 feet away but close up its really covered in these marks. can anyone recommend a product that will remove them? im planning on spending a few days next week going over the car and would love to get the paintwork 'up to scratch' - so to speak. im not looking at spending hundreds of pounds before anyone recommends certain treatments. the car is a 1996 BMW so im assuming its quite a good paint, if that makes any difference?

many thanks nerf

For light swirl marks I would recommend Autoglym Super Resin Polish....two coats, applied via an applicator pad and removed with a microfibre. Follow up with some Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine.

If you are more serious and know of somebody with a PC (Porter Cable polisher) I would use something like Menzerna Polish PO91L...which works beautifully on BMW paint which is pretty tough. By hand I am not sure that this polish would get enough heat to start breaking down.

Hope this helps.

Its going to take a very long time to remove swirls with Super Resin. It can be done, but to do a whole car be prepared for a long project!

Using a pad will not make so much diference, but a microfibre will guarantee no more scratches when polishing.

There are a variety of additional polishes available but many will only break down and fill swirl marks when used with a Porter Cable random orbital polisher. Where are you located?

It's been said on DW that AG UDS does bond with AG SRP well. Better to finish off with a couple of layers of AG Extra Gloss Protection (say 24 hours apart).

i agree with cooper, if like me you dont understand all this detailing stuff with power tools etc, mequirs scratch x i would say is the best one. i used it on my 96 saab and it worked better than the auto glym stuff but couldnt erase them completely
