Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good product/method for cleaning up stainless exhausts/manifolds? I'm planning to put a bit of time into my engine bay over the next few months as and when I have the odd hour to spare and if I could get a decent shine back on the exhausts and manifolds that would be a big plus...

The ends of the exhaust at the rear of the car come up nicely with some autosol but I suspect that these have been cleaned fairly regularly over the years, whereas the bits under the bonnet may not have been cleaned since they were fitted- using autosol on a sample bit of manifold did eventually produce some good results but doing this over the whole thing is going to take a lot of effort and cost me a small fortune in autosol!

Cheers

Harvey

Contact www.bilthamber.co.uk and see if they have something suitable.
I know they deal quite a bit in rust removal/cleaning, but they may have something I'm not aware of or can recommend a product that'll do the trick.

Sounds like you need something more abrasive than Solvol, so try wet or dry paper.

Use the finest grade you can get away with, which with luck will be 1000 or 1200 (bigger the number, the finer the grade). If you have to start with a coarser grade then follow up with finer grades until you get to 1200. Then finish with Solvol for final shine.
