Has anybody ever done any research into whether one clay is any better than another? I have just finished claying my alloys and was using Sonus grey. Not bad but am going to try Chemical Guys clay next and want to know who uses what?

Can't fault Bilt Hamber's Auto Clay.

I don't think they vary as much as other products. I used the Meguiars stuff and was happy. Moved to Sonus SFX Ultra fine and I like that. Some of the less mainstream ones are more aggressive and can mar paint, but this would polish out. Just like any abrasive really.

I have used both the Meguiars retail and their professional range...not over impressed to be honest. The Sonus grey is good but has no lifespan when stored. I am awaiting better weather to use the Chemical Guys (white) with some Meguiars Last Touch as a lube. Just wanted to know what everybody thought. Never used Bilt-Hambler products.

Tried most of the clays over the years and am using Zaino clay at the moment and it's the best I've tried, mild but effective without the usual marring.

Sonus grey clay is very aggressive and will marr the paint.

I don't dispute that it's great on alloys just saying it's very aggressive and not uncommon to marr the paint so may need to polish after.

I agree. Have used it on an 13 year old BMW and it did a top job, but took a fair bit of time. On my Lexus I use Meguiars and it takes half the time but the paint is softer and the car is 3 years old.

I used to use Swissvax Paint rubber but have now discovered you can get the same product/same production line from Chemical Guys UK, Raceglaze and others for less money and an extra bar toowink
