Wear a pair of nitrile gloves, rubber ones will do but have less feel. Use red or green scotchbrite to key the panel thoroughly, then clean the panel with thinners using something like kimtex cloths, apply with one and wipe off with another. The panel is then ready for etch priming. Only 1 coat is required, this does not need to be a heavy coat as you can go wet on wet straight after with 2 to 3 coats of high build primer if you are using a metallic finish or need to rectify any problems in the panel. If you are using a solid colour and the panel is straight you can paint directly onto the etch primer. After the paint has cured wetflat all orange peel out using 1000 grit paper (ensuring you do not go through the finish coat) and polish with an electric mop and Farecla G3, then change to a softer mop head and polish again using 3M machine galze or similar.
