Hi all. New to this part of the forum, but the time has come to ask for help: Is there a technique or product that anyone can recommend to ease the removal of squished flies from the front bumper of my E46 3 series BMW. I'm sure there must be an alternative to scrubbing like mad with the mitt or struggling with a brush to achieve poor results. Ladies/Gents I look forward to any sensible suggestions...

Thanks, Richard.

Don't let them harden up too much and if they do you could just place a hose sprinkler next to your car for a bit to help soften them up. The only other options are lots of scrubbing or lots of detergent. Also, keep the front end nicely waxed and they'll come off much easier.

You can buy some Meguiars bug remover or i can recommend Poorboys Bug squash. Spray on 5 - 10 mins before you wash the car to let it soak in.

Or place soaking wet microfibre cloths on the fly sections but dont scrub. leave for 5 - 10 mins this will moisten the dead flies etc then lots of rinsing with a hose or pressure washer then your normal wash.

Warm wet towel for a good few mins will soften them.
Warm water used for washing too will be helpful.
Bilt Hamber Surfex HD - diluted to 3-5%, and a pressure sprayer - good for a pre-wash treatment, rinse with warm water if you can, then wash with their Autowash shampoo.
Drop of Autobalm, after a going over with Autoclay, job done.

Nice little kit from http://www.carnaubawaxshop.co.uk/shop/viewproduct.... or www.bilthamber.com directly with a slightly different kit for same sort of money.

Einszett make a wonderful bug remover. Spray on, leave for a few minutes and then wash away with a mitt and some car shampoo. Not expensive and does what it says on the bottle.

There is a product made by chemical guys called Bug bugger and Tar remover that works well the same company also make a good citrus based degreaser for the job.
Mix some product into a spray bottle (diluted) Spray direct onto the area in question and slowly dab onto the area with a microfibre cloth That will help to remove the flies !!!

The problem with dead flies and bird droppings is this time of year on dark coloured cars damage can take effect within hours while the sun starts to bake in all the acids !!
Keeping a good detail spray and microfibre cloth in the car with you and trying to treat the area asap would really help too!!smile

another shout for poorboys bug squash. cracking product. also i find dodo born to be mild shampoo works its way well through bugs.

only thing to using bug removes is that it will strip the protection layer from your paint. be sure to follow up afterwards with wax.

Einszett for me OR pre foam prior to washing - I've found that this works very well in removing bug splatter without the need for using a separate bug squash type product.

I found that bugs could be removed with a straight plain water blast from the Karcher on the 205 wearing 3 x Dodo Supernatural and my Saab after I don't know how many coats of Zaino Z5 - almost no residue left.

I was concerned about leaving them on but they still came off the Saab on Sunday after 10 days of not being washed (due to the filthy weather, not laziness, honest)
