how much of a repair is needed? in my experience not all smart repairs are actually that smart. detailed a gallardo a while back that had a smart repair done and it stood out a mile. sometimes better to bite the bullet and get the whole panel done. but that said if you get someone good then they can be invisible.

This suggests that full panel paints and SMART repairs are mutually exclusive things, and they're not.

I've just put the lamps on to bake a SMART repair - a keyscratch from tail light to just above the front door handle on a Passat. The colour was faded in on the C pillar and across the width of the front door, and the lacquer faded out above the B post, so this is a repair done using SMART repair techniques, but essentially three full panels have been refinished. Oh, and the width of the back bumper too.

It's misleading to suggest to the OP that you have to choose between full panel paints and SMART repairs - it's not an either/or situation.

what i was getting at was there are some cowboys out there so make sure you get someone who's not. as you say you've blended it in and it soounds like a propper job. have seen litterally just the scratch done without good colour matching.

+1

The person that is repairing the vehicle is what matters !!!

Dont take it too heart TOL....
The bodyshop that i ran for 10 years had many bodyshop people come and go,
i have seen crap work from many painters even thou the workshop used some of the most expensive paint and equipment around!! Then like wise i have seen some incredible work using very cheap equipment and materials and working outside instead of a spray booth!!! ITs the skill of the person that counts for everything!!!

In general i have been very surprised how much bad repairs i witness day to day detailing cars of which some are worth £50000+!! Only to be repaired cheaply and normally by dealers ready for resale!
