Cutting out door/bonnet skin

I plan on cutting out my door, bonnet and boot skin in oder to save weight. I dont see the door one being a problem as I have a roll cage fitted, I also think the boot should be ok but a little concerned about the bonnet I pland on cutting the skinn out then adding a little strength and then using 4 bonnet pins to holsd it down.

The reason I have not gone for carbonfibre or fibreglass is that the mk3 polo is not a popular car and no one makes any parts for them !

As anyone done this before and can give me any pointers ?
