Which Spraygun?
Discussion
Hi all
I have a 3.0hp 50 litre compressor, it flows 12 CFM but only has a 50 litre tank. I have found a 150 litre air receiver but am unsure if it is needed yet due to the small area i'll be painting.
I will initially be spraying the bodywork on my bike. I have the etch primer, paint and laquer. I will get some panel wipe and tack rags and I have a bagoda which with a tarpaulin for the base will make a reasonable spray booth in my warm dry garage. I don't have any idea what spray gun to get though apart from gravity fed?
So, are there any features I should look for, nozzle sizes, makes etc?
Also if there is a good inline air dryer that you could reccomend that would be a help also.
Regards
Dave

Your compressor should be quite adequite, only if your wearing an airfed mask (which you should be if your in a DIY booth) then it will toyle.I have a 3.0hp 50 litre compressor, it flows 12 CFM but only has a 50 litre tank. Because you say you have the primer/Paint/Laquer you dont say what it is?
Is the etch primer you have aerosol or for the gun 1k or 2k?
Is the Paint Water Base or solvent?
Is the Lacquer 2k/HS/MS or non ico?
In an ideal world you would have a different gun for all stages, but if its a one off job thats not really viable.
IIRC theres some one on flea bay selling a cheapie gun with extra nozzles which would no doubt help in your cause. Primer needs a larger nozzle/needle set up about 1.7 is ok, base and clear anything over 1.2 should do. Another factor is how much you thin the products used down and also personal preferance.
All the best with your project, hope all goes well for you

Good advice above.
If you haven't got them already, get the Tech Data sheets for the products you're going to use.
They tell you how to use the products safely, and in a manner that means they adhere, dry properly, look good and last. They also advise what size setup spray equipment to use, and at what pressure... this will dictate what spray equipment you'll need for the job.
Good luck, and look after your lungs!

If its your first time I'd spend £80 on 3 machine mart hvlp gravity feed guns, they are ok for the cash and then you dont end up with primer in you clear coat ect. Get 1 gun with a 1.8 set up for your high build and 2 with 1.4 set up for base and clear. Dont mix up your clear and base guns!
