I've just given the plastic rear screen on my [1998] boxster a clean using some MER which I had lying around. Done a good job it did.

However, at some time it looks like the screen has had a car dealer's sticker on it and the MER isn't getting rid of the residue. Is it safe to use one of the sticky-residue-removal chemicals which are widely available or should I try something else?

WD-40 sprayed onto a cloth would be worth a simple try before moving on to something like Einszett Plastic-Vinyl Cleaner, Zaion Z-14 Plastic Magic Cleaner & Polish or Carlack 68 - Special Cleaner.

Any of these three will do wonders.

Thanks for the plastic cleaner recommendations. I thought about WD40 already but am unsure how it might react with the screen?

If applied by cloth (microfibre) there should be no problems. The other products are specifically for plastic and designed to clean without harming.

I've just used WD40 and it's worked a treat - the sticky stuff has gone and the screen hasn't melted.
