Just looking for any tips. I'm planning to respray a part of the front end of a project car, and have taken it back to bare metal, treated and primed (first coat only - letting it cure).

I'm planning another primer coat on Thursday and giving it until Saturday PM to cure.

What I am wondering is what the best way to blend a spray coat on top of existing paint is - I don't want to take the whole front-end back to the metal, but am not sure a hard edge 'end' to the primed sections won't be visible. Is there a way to 'key' an existing acrylic top-coat so that it can take a small amount of additional spray to allow blending with the coat which will go on top of the primed area?

My plan would be to do this and then top-coat later next week (provided all goes well with the spray coat).

FWIW I'm using spray cans, colour match checked: good, and I'm planning to do the spraying indoors in a borrowed garage.

If all goes pear-shaped I am prepared to pay a pro to do this, but I'd like to give it a try first...
