No major reason why just that i like layering different waxes and wanted to start doing a few tests towards obtaining a favourite combo. I had a few hours to kill and thought I'd give it a go. So far only paste waxes as I had a choice of 10. I'll have a go with the liquid waxes on my other car.

Car is a 10 year old mk4 fiesta in dark metalic blue. Has a few battle scars lol but nothing major. Didn't go for full correction just solid prep work. After polishing the paint it was sealed with Chemical Guys Xtreme Deapth & Seal and Poorboys Diamond White Glaze.

As I wanted to see what different waxes would layer like I put down an even all over coat of Dodo Rainforrest Rub. Applied panel by panel and left to cure it was then buffed off (after these layers wear off I'll start again and put one of the other waxes as the base coat). After an hour I then applied a variety of waxes to each panel.

The list of waxes I'm testing is as follows:

Dodo:

Rainforrest Rub
Blue Velvet
Purple Haze
White Diamond
Light Fantastic
Super Natural

Chemical Guys:

Pete 53 Black Pearl

Poorboys:

Natty's Blue

Zymol:

Creme
Glasur

I'll be looking for best durability as well as ease of application as a combo. Looks will also play a big part. Application wise my favourite combo so far is Pete 53, Supernatural, Blue velet and both of the Zymol waxes. All layered effortlessly over the base layer of Rainforrest Rub.

Looks wise so far it's between Pete 53, Supernatural and Blue Velvet.

Was farily tired after finishing that lot lol. So will post some after pics up tonight.

Interesting test but, and with all due respect, how will you achieve anything looks-wise without fully correcting the paint initially?

Ah I see - all cool. Got me worried for a minute there.

Are you expecting any particular results from the waxes you've chosen? Would be interesting to compare your perceptions now with the final results particularly "cheap vs expensive" as that's surprised me a few times, albeit when applying a new (to me) wax from either higher up a lower down the £ scale.

Results that I expect would be for the more expensive ones on test to be be more durable (this is ultimately my aim), sheet better and give a better overall look. Ease of application is a big factor as well for me and also how well they layer.

So far the easiest to apply and layer appears to be the Dodo SN - one of the more expensive ones that I've got in my mini collection (£65 plastic pot). But closely followed by the Poorboys Nattys which is the cheapest there. The worst for layering over the Dodo RR was the Zymol Glasur. This is the most expensive I have at £95 a pot. This may be because it's designed for Porcshe paint. But previously I've been very happy with it on silver cars i've had. However this was only ever used on it's own and not in a combo.

Looks wise for me the Dodo SN is now winning hands down. The others seemed to have "settled" and lost a little of their lusture but the SN still looks as good as when it went on, if not better.

Last night at a local meet (I know it's sad taking a mk4 fiesta to a meet lol, but I had my 2 year old son wanted to go and see the Scoobies) I noticed some bird droppings on the roof. A little water to soften and it then just run off. Some of the guys wondered what I was doing. So we set about seeing how the waxes would sheet. The Pete's 53 (one of the cheaper ones) was awesome along with the Dodo SN. These were on par for me. I was quite surprised by that given the difference in price. Again the Zymol waxes weren't as good which surprised me. But feel this is down to the layer over the Dodo RR. They may be better as a base then have something layered over them to lock in the wetness that they give.

Poorboys is a great all round wax. I used to solely use it and nothing else. It punches well above it's price. As do the Dodo waxes.

This could be quite a long drawn out test as I think there's going to be some great durability from these waxes.

Small update for you. I chose not to wash the car in the end and still haven't. The car is used daily and does about 10 miles a day. I wanted to see how well the waxes would aid in keeping dirt from bonding to the paint.

All the Dodo waxes and in particular the SN are holding superbly. Tight beading still remains and very little road dirt is holding onto the paint. The Z waxes have offered very little by way of visible protection and are no longer giving tight beading. I was wondering if they have somehow not taken to layering with a base coat of sealant and Dodo RR. The Pete's 53 is also starting to fall by the wayside. The Natty's is holding up at the moment but not to the level of the Dodo waxes.

I'll try and get some pics up over the next couple of days.
