Hi, just after some advice with regards mixing Cellulose (gloss white) and Polyester (dark blue) paints... basically we're painting our rally car, and the blue we've got is a lot darker than we expected, so we're looking to mix it a bit lighter. Tried silver (both polyester), that mixed a treat but came out turqouisey, we've got some white in, but it's cellulose, will it mix ok?

Using about 60/40 thinners/paint too, which seems nice, is that a good mix?

cheers all smile

Certainly not recommended but if it's only for a race car you may get away with it.
I wouldn't do it though

no, tried it and it was fine until the end of the tin, when it started coming out in white globs, think it may have reacted or something.

Mixed with silver and gave quite a nice colour, unfourtunately its no-where near the colour we want so now we have to wait until we can afford a different colour, the paint code is honda cobalt blue (c54bp I think) and its come out turqouisey blue, and a lot darker than it should, even when lacquered. Think we'll be having words with where he bought it from!

With spirit based paints, a basic rule of thumb is if you shake and stir the paint well, it should appear wet the same colour as when it is laquered and polished.
This rule isn't bulletproof tho, and if in doubt, try a small spray out on a piece of scrap, then laquer it and check it. If the colour isn't right, most paint factors will exchange it.
