Is it easyer to paint a door and blend it in rather than paint 2 whole doors and wings (aka one whole side of a car)?

I had my car back in to the body shop to sort out the mess they did last time my not using the right paint varient and it's come back with 2 sides painted in a diffrent colour from the rest of the car!!

Firstly it looks like a pretty poor bit of colour matching. Probably checked under artificial light instead of daylight, and secondly, most sprayers, having painted a door would fade the colour out along the wings, so where it meets other panels is still the original paint, and then laquer the whole side.
There are alot of cowboys out there. Best to get a personal recommendation from someone you know before going to a bodyshop.

From what I can see in the pics, theres big problems in their paint mixing dept. I cant understand why they returned the car like that.....
Are they members of the VBRA?

There not on the VBRA site but there a ford branded body shop.

Theey ba***ed up the original job of dealing with the rust and repainting the first 2 times it went in then came back with this (linked due to size).

So im shocked it's come back like this - I reckon the bloke messed up and decided to paint the whole side rather than just the 2 doors (both founts) as I cant think of another reason to paint both sides of the car when only the door needs doing!

That is a disgrace.

If it was my car i would buy a banner from eBay saying something along the lines of....................check out the poor colour match of my car for the second time etc etc. Then sit outside their front door with the banner on your car. Name and shame may just work a treat.

Hope you get it sorted

If you have any trouble id go straight to trading standards, afterall its easy to show them what the problem was.
Hope u get sorted out

well spoke to the bodyshop today.
and it's with the "gaffa" as "it's got alot of paint on it now" - asked why the whole side was painted the guy wasnt sure but said it would have been what they were told to do by the paint company.

He's said that he thinks it'll go to a inderpendant inspection.

im wondering if it's worth getting my own done as well.

That's a pretty special effort - a blind man with a blindfold on could have made a better colour match than that!

Before you let them paint the thing yet again you probably need to look at the paint depth - it must be getting pretty thick & it should probably be stripped before it is repainted.

im now wondering if there's another black thats similar but has more flake in than panther black.
Had a quick look this morning and it's deffently got more flake in that the original bodywork.

Apart from that they have there paint supplyer coming in on tuesday to have a look at it.
Im expecting to be told it's the best they can do furious

nice one - they have been given another colour to try - this time I've asked for a spray out card so I can check it first..
Though they dont think it'll match the frount end as it's been sprayed before aparently.

just have to hope the card comes back ok....

Looks like a candidate for a complete respray.
Panther Black can be a complete pig of a colour, last one I was asked to repair - needed the wheel arch part of the front wing repairing - none of the swatches I have in PPG (five variant shades)looked anything like. Fortunately for me I test sprayed BEFORE attacking the car with abrasives so explained to the customer what the problem was and walked away from it. Chicken, yes, but I don't need the aggro.

BTW I've just looked at the Spies Hecker formulation section & they list 22 (yes, TWENTY TWO)different formulations eek, so good luck with it!

I know i was shocked when I looked at the DuPoint site - 12 with specals on some as well.
I know the lechler base matches (or did match) what was on there before these started.

I still havnt got a answer to why they sprayed the whole sides - im going to give them the option depending on card when i get to look at it.

Im sure it's got to be easyer to do 2 bumpers, bonnet, boot & roof than both sides again..
Though id feel cheaky as the bonnet and bumpers need spraying anyways smile

EFA.. ohps too many paint supplyers
