Can someone recommend me a good masking tape!

Last week started work on painting my mates bike fairing, white and black simple.

So go to do the black lines in, paint that....Remove tape, tape has stuck and looks like its bled, try it again with 3m blue, same st, try inch tape, same again, regardless off what I do, I keep getting tape marks stuck, well its the glue from the tape stuck in the paint work. Leave the paint to dry for a few days, try the white, same thing but now on the black, just constantly redoing work...

First time I have ever had this happen, I have been spraying for a good 6-7 years now, and its really hacking me off, very frustrating.

So can someone recommend a good tape that will stop this from happening, pissing me off now

You can also get low tack masking tape, but you will more than likely get bleed through from it. Or if your a skinflint like myself you can run the tape down your trousers or sweatshirt before applying it to get rid of some of the adhesive.

What I am gathering is going on, is the thinners or cat in the paint is reacting with the glue on the tape and melting it as such into the paint

Leaving tape on for too long can cause problems sometimes. Most standard tapes have a 24 - 36 hour maximum use time. Try to demask as soon as the paint will handle it. And as for the bleed problem, use a fineline tape for the edges and apply light coats, gradually. Put on just enough paint to give the correct colour, then use a good quality clearcoat to protect the surface.

Normal masking tape will never give you a sharp edge if you spray up to it, you need to use "fine line tape" the 3M type mentioned above is very good for this.
