Repairing a mistake made by a "professional" has ultimately led to me having to repaint the window reveals on my car. So I've done the prep; back to bare metal, etch primer, primer blah blah and now colour is going on but...

The colour is intentionally different to the main body work colour so much careful masking has taken place. Once I've put the new colour on I'm assuming I need to clear coat/laquer but do I remove the masking and in effect "bleed" the clear coat over the existing paint work or not?

Yes, the masking has to go otherwise you will have an 'edge' of primer, paint and lacquer showing. You need to soft mask back to a swage line or panel edge so the lacquer will cover the paint. I take it that you have NOT primered and painted to the same mask line... if you have, you will probably have to start again. There will be a big line of primer and paint showing which you will not be able to get rid of.

I suspect that you may have created a bit of a problem for yourself. :-(

Thanks - primer and paint lines are at different places... primer runs into existing paint work, sanded to remove edge, colour coat runs across primer and into existing paint work...
