Ok, donning my flame proof suit, but here goes:
Ive been using Auto-Glym for my cars since day 1 / when I started properly washing them, and im always very pleased with the results Ive had, however when you look at detailing product websites such as Detailed obsession, there seems to be a distinct lack of their products... Are they more regarded as an "amateur" brand, or is it just the fact that is so widely available that its not necessary for places like this to stock it?

The fact is their products do for a reasonable price a reasonable job, like cheap tyres, clothes from M&S, a meal from Pizza Hut etc.

Those who do their research and really care about getting the best from their paintwork, their time and effort will go that but further and buy more expensive, higher quality and more specific products.

Like many serious detailers I tend to stay away from a number of their products but do keep one or two items within my collection.

no it isn't that great imo.

There are others now that can do the jobs better. Alot of competitors go into specfic segments.

So you can use a variety of manufacturers and get the best in all segments.

Pre wash autosmart tfr
Bilberry for wheels
shampoo duragloss901
claybar meguiars
qd meguiars
glass cleaner autoglym
leather gilmour

Instead of using AG versions throughout..

TBH alot of the AG range is very very average. There are competitors who are better and cheaper imo. AG just have the brand name.

Autoglym only get a bashing because you can buy it in Halfords, a lot of chat is pure snob value. Whilst there are lots of better products out there, I find SRP is still a fantastic product for the price. Likewise, their tyre dressing is good too.

Well I am always pleased with results I get, and I agree that it is good value for money, although I do use Megs a lot too- the QD spray is brilliant. I am tempted to try a few other products though to see if i can get better results- I may treat myself to some dodo juice wax at some point.

Amen to that..

I use Turtle Wax Platinum/Comma/Carplan products for a great and long lasting results. Ok, I'm biased, but my vette is 22 years old/100k miles, been in this country since new, and is used every day in all weathers..

This site has delivered well on reviews and tests of auto products...

Tend to agree about both SRP and about there being some unfounded brand name snobbery against any household name product that you don't need to be a detailing obsessive to recognise. I was going to machine polish the black Elise I've just bought, to get some very fine swirling out, but decided to leave it for now - I wanted to do some research and buy some new polishes. So I just washed it, clayed it and then used SRP and extra gloss protection. I know it's only hiding the defects with filler, but actually it does a bloody good job of it. I'll get round to doing it properly, but for what it is SRP is excellent stuff.

SRP is decent stuff, and I like the bumper care for other plastics too.

However the whole range can give decent results IF used properly.

although I found the Paint Renovator a horrible product, best to use megs scratchX instead. The hood kit is excellent too.

It's known as the Vauxhall of the Detailing World. That said though, SRP is great at what it does and is used by many detailing enthusiasts
