Finally after nearly finishing all the welding and body prep I'm hoping to get around to spraying my 1950's roadster this summer.

I took a course on spraying at college using their Devillebis hvlp setup so I'm OK with what to do, my question though is what equipment spec do I need to spray my car.

ie; which compressor size, which is a reasonable gun (I know Devillebis and Sata are good but very expensive) air fed mask etc.

I spoke to Machine Mart about their big compressors and they basically said forget it, an hvlp gun will drain the tank almost immediately let alone not give enough air for the mask.

The body is off the chassis so I intend to spray all the panels separately, then assemble everything together and give it a couple more base coats to ensure an equal spray, then separate all the panels again and apply the clear coats

So to paint my car, which is about the size of a black cab taxi, what's the minimum compressor/gun/mask set up I can get away with for a good job ?

My vans run a 3.5 hp rand setup filling a 125 ltr reciever, this in turns runs a sate hvlp gun plus an airfed mask, no problems at all.

Id take machine mart talk with a pinch of salt.

Hey. It'd be good to hear how you got on with this. As I have just finished a paint course and am looking to work on my own too. I've heard that HydroVane compressors are good but never used one, so unsure...
