HI,

Could anyone advise me the best way to clean my suede steering wheel and gear knob, and how to keep it looking suede.

Thanks

Steve

Some swear by baby wipes for Alcantara (which it's likely to be rather than genuine suede leather), but I don't.
Get the manufacturer recommended cleaner from Bill Nunn Carpets - UK agent.
If it is real suede, then the guys/gal at LTT Solutions or Furniture Clinic will have the very thing.

It is suede (BMW E30 M3 Sport Evo).

I will give the warm water a try.

Let us know how well washing the frying pan with warm water works first. wink

If it is genuine suede leather, then water will do next to sod all other than wetting the material and maybe lifting some dust you've not vacuumed off.
Honestly, it's not rocket science - you don't use water and a microfiber cloth to clean suede shoes/boots/jacket/etc, you use a properly designed-for cleaner.

As per my previous reply, if you're looking to do it right at all - then forget cheap, DFR, (do f***ing rightly), old wives tales, and spend a few ££ on the correct product(s).
Sponge and a used small stiff brush for suede, for a start.

Alcantara is faux suede, and a very good faux one at that - so cleaning requirements of both materials will be practically identical.

But suede is a natural material where alcantara is not, I cant understand how they have the same cleaning process.

Suede is only natural insofar as it's cowhide - aside from a "suede head" haircut circa 1982, when was the last time you saw a cow sporting on of those?
The process is similar for cleaning both since they are both short fibre pile, and neither should be wetted to the point of colour changing shade.
