Well I was in the process of taking the tim off my MK2 GTI in order to spray it (think they come up well)

When I found this behind the skirt on the drivers side just behind the door

At first I thought the car had taken a kicking and someone had repaired it badly. Then I opened the door and found a spot of rust, after clearing this away I hit more filler

It looks like it has taken a serious beating at some point and bent the sill. What would you do Sand down the filler so its flat and build up any dips propaly and respray or sand all the way back to the metal (if there is any)?

Also found a load off rust around the wheel arches However that has now been sanded back and primed.

I also have a couple of dents that are curved outwards (same side) Any ideas on how to flatten them off?

As well as this one right in the curve of the door!

Cheers

Dave

what a mess.

id be tempted to take the whole sill area back to bare metal to find out exactly whats under that total-bodge filler-job.

reckon repairing that is a bodyshop job-looks like the metal in the sill area is badly dented/distorted.

looks a nightmare job to fix that properly, but if you do end up repairing it then remember to treat the inside of the sill with some waxoyl or engine oil or similar afterwards.

Does anyone know how much sills are for mk2 golfs? I am thinking it might be easier for a body shop to cut the damaged area out and weld a new one in place. However if its going to cost more £100's I may just repair it as best I can as its only a daily hak.

Is it worth it? perhaps better enjoyed as a rough but fun daily driver than attempting to put right what looks like a real mess.
