I thought I had got my head round polishers and decided that I wanted a Kestrel DAS-6 then I saw this, http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/d...

Now I am all confused again. These look like some decent deals but I have no idea which of the kits to go for or what the relative merits of the various packages are!

The "Menzerna Kit" seems to have twice as many pads and bottles as the others. It this because its better value or because the quality isnt as good as the "Sonus kit" Then you have the "Sonus and Menzerna kit" with only one of each pad and 3 bottles which is the same price as the "Meguires" one, which has 3 pads and 2 bottles... I am baffled as to what to get.

If it helps, I will be aiming to correct/polish my flip paint Cerbera (after practice on my Skoda "TVR Support Vehicle") I havn't a clue if the laquer on the Cerb is going to be soft, hard or somewhere in between.

Any suggestions or thoughts from someone who knows what they are doing would be greatly appreciated.

The range of polishes available from Menzerna are very good, but are better suited to cars with harder top coat finishes and paint, such as those found on VW / BMW / Mercedes.

I have found little difference between Sonus pads and those made by Meguiars, although the range avaiable from Meguiars is better. Lake County also make some wonderful pads but any of these will do a good job.

The cutting levels of the polishes is what will matter in regard to removing swirl marks and restoring a deep lustre to your paintwork along with the correct surface preparation and some time working on your technique. I would start off with the Meguiars option, you can always buy Menzerna polishes separately if you want a more aggressive cut.

Excelent - thanks for the advice. smile

Are the Menzerna pads any good? They seem to be giving you twice as many in that kit.

Menzerna pads are very firm - as they are designed to be used in conjunction with their own polishes on MB's PPG Ceramiclear paint.
You'd be better off choosing your own pads - the Gloss It ones from Polished Bliss are supposed to be very good, albeit slightly more expensive.
They also do some of the Lake Country ones, and RubbishBoy's (www.carnaubawaxshop.co.uk) does the Liquid Shine ones, which I quite like, and their accompanying polishes - colour coded like 3M's Finesse It range is.
