gliptone leather cleaner is the one to go for.
You can get it on line from ebay etc also halfords.
Then just use a conditioner on top

Simple. Gliptone is good, LTT Solutions also make a wonderful cleaner and protector.

Warm up the leather with a hair dryer to open up the pores, clean gently, wipe down with a clean damp microfibre....

warm again then protect with the correct solution and wipe away the excess with a clean dry cloth.

LTT gets my vote, they really know leather and the products work and they actually protect rather than sit on the surface collecting dirt.

Which LTT products do you guys use? The Auto kit?

I'm tempted to buy the strong cleaner and the protector but wondering who has experience. This will be used on a light coloured leather.

I use the Auto Ultra 150 kit. Their cleaner is wonderful and the protector is possibly the best available which will stop most dirt / grease / dye etc attaching itself to the surface.

I have some Autoglym leather care balm but it leaves a gloss finish....how can I get a nice matt finish on black leather?

Stop using the current product, use an leather cleaner and then follow up with the conditioner. I always have used Gliptone.

Whilst I really like the Gliptone conditioner, lovely stuff, I really do not like the Gliptone cleaner. Too sticky and needs lots of rinsing/wiping/buffing to get it off. I am not a big fan of Autoglym products in general, but I do like their leather cleaner, very effective and comes off easily when you final wipe.

Hi

Example of before and after using Zaino Leather Cleaner and Conditioner. Some people find it easier to work with and the smell not so strong.
