Best in the world?
Discussion
I am not sure if there is one person because different high end detailers do different cars. Somebody who does 2010 supercars would not be much use on a 1930's Bugatti or a car at the Villa D'Este. I would look at the chaps who do the cars at Pebble Beach for guidance.
Also people who detail cars in California, Florida, Georgia would not appreciate the issues of owners in Finland, the UK, Dubai, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
Not sure if you could possibly name one person, but you could certainly name a few...the chaps who do boats and planes are right up there for cars too!
Ever seen the Discovery programme about the people who detail Air Force One!! Amazing!!!

Certainly one of the more controversial figures in the industry for various reasons, but our own Kelly of KDS fame would probably leave Paul for dust when it comes to certain elements of detailing.
Equally Clark from Polished Bliss, and Matthew from Off Your Marks.
Jay from Gleaming Kleen, and a number of others I'm forgetting would all be up there.
Detailing is not rocket science, so there's only so far you can go before you reach the same pinnacle as those mentioned in one or all areas of the art.
People like Kelly, who's been a painter as well as polisher, has potentially an advantage since he's worked with applying the stuff that most of the rest 'just' polish up.
Bottom line, no one person is the creme d'la creme of detailing, there are a number whom all share the same plateau of excellence.

Yep, forgot the chap that has done quite a big "rowing boat" - Tony Spears - JamesB, DaveKG, and Robbie from Valet Magic, Rob at GleamMachine, L200 Steve, and the list goes on.
Notoriety should never be assumed to be a gauge of one's level of excellence, which is why most of those are well under the radar of the OP and others who like to rank people in order of good, better, best.
Anyone who's had their car done, been ecstatic with the result, will think their chosen guy is the best - all very much subjective and highly emotive for very obvious reasons.
For that reason alone, that's why I never bother getting into a ranking match - it's a futile and pointless exercise.

Why whats Paul done? Those who know the score, and/or him directly, will appreciate the term "controversial" is apt, and in no way casting a shadow on his ability to detail, or being someone to avoid.

Eddie, no need to get defensive about Paul - you asked, I answered in as diplomatic a manner as possible.
As for "chinese whispers", I assure you of the fact the person whom I was conversing with, had a very pertinent and close relationship with him, and was the driving force behind his much fabled £5K, 63-step process detail, which got him featured on 5th Gear.
If you don't know whom I'm talking about, then I'll let someone else fill in the missing info.
As for what I do - I'm involved in the detailing sector in a couple of ways.
