Hi

I have some Sonus (spelling?) clay bar and lube which I have used once before. I only have around a 3rd of a bottle left of the lube. Do you think I could start claying and when the lube runs out finish the job with either water or a water/shampoo mix?

I know some clays say that you can do this but is there anything specifically against the bar I have that suggests I shouldnt.

Alternatively should I just buy another bottle of lube?

cheers

You can use a shampoo / water substitute.....water alone is NOT enough of a lubricant. I would pop down to Halfords and buy some of their QD (Quick Detailer) which is also a clay lube.

as the man say's.

I just use shampoo/water; it works just fine. I prefer that method because I can do a whole panel at a time without having to keep on squirting lube.

buy yourself some dodo juice: born slippy. it's brilliant stuff.

on a separate note....when claying a car, how long does it usually take you guys to do a whole car?

Rather than take a chance I bought a couple of bottles of Sonus lube.

I have also bought a load of kit from GTechniq and will set aside a day in half term to do the car (weather permitting).

In terms of the time to clay tbh I cant remember as I have only done it once. The whole process - wash - dry - clay - wash - dry - polish - wax took quite a few hours from memory..I recall I was out with the car for the morning and well into the afternoon (maybe 5-6 hours in total).

I was knackered at the end but REALLY enjoyed a beer afterwards whilst looking at my handiwork smile

/\ snap! Also, you just can't stop touching the smooth finish...........er........or was that just me?! My 220 took around 6 hours, that was to wash, clay & then wax. I used Meguirs stuff (tech wax 2 i think?) and it came out great. Amazing how much st is stuck to the paint after washing!!
