I'm biased, being a refinisher, but
"Actually *cleaning* the tyres and leaving them clean rather than slathering them in some horrible silicone-rich grease-dressing"
is the best product on the market
That just makes is clean, that doesn't make it shiny. You clean your car then you wax it. Do exactly the same thing to both your tyres and your wheels; clean, then apply product."Actually *cleaning* the tyres and leaving them clean rather than slathering them in some horrible silicone-rich grease-dressing"

In this case, I use Meguiars tyre gel, really good and used it for years, lasts well but is not too "sticky" ;

I've used this Meg's Tyre gel on the black plastic on my Alfa; brings it up a treat! It just happens to make the tyres look nice too!In this case, I use Meguiars tyre gel, really good and used it for years, lasts well but is not too "sticky" ;

What do you apply it with Tony?
Apologies, didn't see your reply sooner.I use just a rag, but I should get myself one of those sponge applicators because it's not the easiest thing to get on with a cloth. I think Meguiars sell the sponge tyre applicator things so will get one of them.
Chemical Guys New Look dressing works for me - also doubles as a plastic/trim rejuvenator and the bottle lasts forever.
I use a washing-up sponge for application - works equally as well as the more expensive applicators, and easily disposable (applicators get filthy after a couple of goes).

I use Poorboys Bold n Bright on my tyres which I am happy with.
However, I also use it on the plastic and vinyl exterior trim (the triangular mirror cover thng at the bottom corner of the A-pillar and the black textured vinyl strip between front & back doors) but I find that after it rains it leaves a dull reside all down my doors.
Is there a product that would stay on the exterior plastic/vinyl AND work on the tyres too?

Zaino is by far the best I have used. Meguiars is also very good but use sparingly as it does tend to sling if you use too much. Meguiars smells the best, like bubblegum!

Another vote for Zaino. I've tried many different ones over the years.

I apply using the Meguiars sponge applicator.

Find "Valeters pride" website, they are based in Letchworth but do mail order. They sell all materials in 1,5 and 25litre sizes. I use their silicon tyre dressing, by 5 litres and decant into a trigger spray. Dont buff it, it stays shiny and the tyres gleam, you can also use on dash, window rubbers and door vinyl but buff it on these areas once applied. Costs around 15 quid for 5 litres versus about £7 for 500ml tyre shine at Halfords. I dont think you will be dissapointed.
