I have an E46 BMW 3-series coupe. It's the M-Sport and has the nice, M branded sill plates. Now, as you look at them there is an almost brushed stainless steel effect part of the trim on the top-side. Mine have got a bit mucky and I can't seem to shift the residue which is on them. I don't want to just use a stainless steel cleaner and ruin them.

Any ideas on how to bring them up well?

Without some good quality photos, and knowing what's been used to clean them previously - at all stages of its life, it's practically impossible to say what you should do, unless you want to throw £50 at a raft of products, when only one was needed.

In lieu of photos, the more info you can provide, the better a response you'll get.

Try some car polish on them.

I would have though some Bilt Hamber Suffex HD, watered down to around 20% plus a decent soft detailing brush would do a great job. Then wax.
