Have currently used Autoglym and meguiars, for the effort that went in wasn't really amazed.

Dodo Juice Purple Haze looks great on black metallic, and isn't too pricey, but the best I have seen is Swissvax Best of Show...

Black Hole Glaze is your first step to a remarkable depth of shine, topped off with Zymol Carbon. Not cheap but outstanding if your preparation is good.

No wax on that whatsoever, IIRC.

yes, but fully wet sanded and polished half a dozen times.

Its important to have good prep on your car, as seen on the pic above, but a good wax will give that bit extra. My vote would be swissvax best of show, but if you cant stretch to that, zaino z2-pro and zfx flash cure accelerator will give a really sharp look.

Thanks for your input gents

Washed with meguiars NXT, dried, then clayed with meguiars smooth surface clay kit and washed again using meguiars NXT.

I didn’t polish but went straight on to use auto gylm ultra deep shine

Wasn’t really impressed with the time put in but will take note of the products mentioned

Neil, having just looked at your garage, I see why some mention of Swissvax and Zymöl has been made - because you can probably afford to.
Well, if you like to part with you money on a whim, work away, but you don't need, nor will you see much (if any at all) difference, irrespective of the colour of your paintwork.

Whilst S and Z cater for the higher end of the market, in much the same way B&O and Loewe do for TV's, and Rolex, etc do for watches, the best "look" you're going to achieve is with properly prep'd paintwork.
Depending on numerous factors relating to daily parking, daily mileage, wash regime, and so on, and so on, certain waxes may be a better option for you, irrespective of price!
Even more so, a true long-life sealant may be the best route to take.

But above all, put the notion that the more expensive the wax is, the better it is - yes to a degree, but after that you're into the realm of fantasy, and it's nothing but pure cachet appeal and bragging rights.
Don't fall for the hype of buying expensive waxes, when a good £20-40 one will be every bit as good.

I use Meguiars tech wax 2.0 on my Phantom Metallic black A5, and very happy with the results. Colour is deep and true, and this wax gives very good protection too.

But you guys are all right, its down to condition of the surface before you get to the waxing stage. There is no cheating with metallic black..

As said its all in the prep work , darker the colour the longer amount of prep work will be needed .

But if you are after a product or products that make an instant turnaround (if only temporary) then a glaze product like DODO juice lime prime / poor boys black hole / chemical guys ez glaze / auto glym SRP .

Then apply a natural wax over the top like dodo juice waxes for dark colours .

Or go the sealent option as many contain fillers and glazes in them like Carlack 68 / Megs Tech wax / chemical guys / Megs 21 sealent .

Or just use this Bilt hamber product auto balm , which has the most filling properties i have seen to date but can be very tricky to use .

Here is a link to a couple of threads

Neil,

This is all you will ever need, for a black car.

Zaino 'Finishing' Kit with Z-5 PRO

I use it on my GTR, the paintwork is really soft and swirls and scratches really easy.

Works good on mine.

The only problem is getting hold of it, you can try this website but its expensive search around

Have you got experience of how long this lasts - obvioulsy a rough idea as I know it will vary depending on loads of things.

Thanks

3-4 months with regular washing with a good shampoo - their own Auto-wash, or Dodo Juice Born To Be Mild would be my recommendations since they are the freest rinsing shampoos I've tried, leaving nothing behind but clean paintwork or wax/sealant.
Others can leave a film of sort, intentionally with some, known as gloss enhancers.
