Removing rust stains from paintwork
Discussion
Hi,
I'm venturing far from my normal territory here - the car's usually slucky to see a jet wash once a month, but I thought you guys could help.
We've got an MX5 which was suffering with rusty sills, this has all been patched up but the rusty water has run forward along the sills onto areas that aren't rusty and stained the silver paint that lovely orange colour on the surface.
I thought it was possible to buy a cleaning fluid that removed rust stains but having searched Halfords and various website I can't find anything, am I imagining it or is there such a thing?

Normal polish or a fine cutting compound will shift it, along with a spot of elbow grease!
Thanks for that Paul, unfortunately the MX5 sills come from the factory with a very bumpy/granular finish, while this might no make polishing impossible it won't help! I'll quite happily follow that route if necessary but I was hoping for a simpler cure!Sounds like you need ironcut http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/aquartz-ir...
The orange peel effect of the lower sills will still be able to be polished up fine. Apply some AG SRP or similar with a foam applicator or a micro fibre cloth and it should be fine. I have machine polished an MX5 with serious oxidisation on before and it came off the sills no problem.
