clear or solid
Discussion
Are you painting it yourself? Or getting a pro to help? If the latter, go with what they are most comfortable with - they'll get better results.
Direct gloss and clear-over-base both have advantages, depends what matters most to you. Direct gloss involves one fewer painting step, obviously, and can probably be done cheaper. Almost all new car finishes opt for clear-over-base technology though, if you spend on decent products the performance and durability is likely to benefit from more recent investment in R&D.

simple
for best possible depth and shine then solid slightly harder to keep its best
for best possible durabilty , slightly easier to keep looking its best and less depth more wetness to finish then base and clear .
The piano black trim on lambos (solid colour) are incredible once fully machine polished , but seem to mark if you just as much as look at them .
