2001 Mercedes S Class Rust prevention
Discussion
I have recently bought an immaculate one owner 2001 Mercedes Benz S Class. It has less than 20,000 miles on the clock with full Benz history.
The car is like new with no rust.
However, I have heard awful stories of large numbers of these cars getting rusty.
Any suggestions on how I could keep the rust at bay?
Many thanks!
Get the underside professional steam cleaned by Rustmaster located just outside Hatfield in Herts and then ask Michael to apply their amazing Waxoyl hardwax and 120-4 cavity wax.
The whole job is about £400 but will stop any underside rust and lasts for years. Amazing process and no mess or further worries.

Yes, unfortunately, they do rust. Wheel arches in particular are susceptible. Check for mud trapped in and around the arches. If you find any tiny rust spots, they are the start of the problem. It may be worth taking the car back to Mercedes to see if they fall under the rust guarantee.
A friend bought an estate for £19,000 and Mercedes has so far spent £24000 on rust repairs! They tend to change whole panels rather than attempt repairs. Your local bodyshop may be able to perform some repairs if the rust hasn't taken hold. I have done quite a few of these.
Good luck!

Ageing Mercs are very prone to rust....especially the rear arches and front wings,I've had the misfortune to work on a number of them including S class.
I've also noticed small rust spots appearing over the entire body from under the paint. It's not something you generally see on other makes.
If yours is already rusting you'll be fighting a losing battle. If there's no sign of rust you're a lucky person
