Sample will be the only correct way to gain the perfect match wink

I as part of my work am always re-colouring leather ( i use liquid leather ) and have found that the colours vary from one year to another on cars bmw being the worst (been told bmw use different tannery's) so the colour does not always match even when the colour has been given and liquid leather have a match too .

Also found alot of cars have already had a small repair (like a bolster) when at a dealership waiting to be sold sitting on their forecourt , they use smart repair guys that will mix the closest match , this in the past has also caught me out many times.

I now when possible cut a small sample from underneath the back seat (as this has not had ground in dirt etc) send that away for colour match .

The last problem can be the leather fades well bleaches in UV light as i find on old softtop cars , got caught with i gave the colour code over the phone next day a large bottle of dye/paint turns up i do a test patch on the seats , the colour was very different to the seats after many phone calls to manifacture and liquid leather i got no where , then cut a small sample from under the seat it matched the colour sent and was miles out from the seats on the top side , they had not been re-coloured before but was a 20 year old car which had spent alot of time with its roof down banghead

A thread from a while back covers some of the things
