I have a 3yr old Astra in met black. The paintwork is the worst that I have seen on a car for a long time yikes
It's been a rep mobile and has never been hand washed or polished so I have decided to try a spot of paint correction and I have stumbled upon a problem.

I have been using a combination of Mequiars clay bar, ultimate compound,& swirl x and finished with 2 coats auto glym hi def wax which is all great for removing the swirl marks and freshening the paint but won't touch any of the deeper scratches. frown

Can anyone recommend me a product that I can use to remove these scratches or shall I try and wet sand them first.
They are only light but I would like them removed.

Any ideas yikes

Hi. Do you have a paint thickness gauge? I wouldn't attempt any serious correction, especially wet sanding without one. You never know the true history of a car. If you've used the most aggressive combo of pad and polish you've got to remove them try a wool pad before going wet sanding. Better correction and less heat.

I have wet sanded a section of the rear bumper just below the boot lid where it has seen heavy traffic and is covered in scratches. I tried farecila scratch remover first but to no avail, I need something to now bring the shine back like a compound.

With regards to the rest of the car I feel a more abrasive product is required to remove the car wash swirls etc as my products are not giving the finish I require.
Any ideas on a product to use ?

I have worked in the motortrade for years, and it takes A LOT to impress me these days, but my valeter has just changed to 3M products and the finish he is getting is amazing! I am truly impressed.

A great forum site I found specifically for detailing which should answer any question you have is

Cheers Ally.

My mate was rather chuffed with the results. Unfortunately it was that nice someone wanted a closer look. So close that it was written off a few months later. frown
