Hi all

I have recently bought a load of Zaino products for my porsche to replace the various other products that I have used in the past (including megs wax and polish).

So anyways - in classic impatient fashion, I pressed ahead without properly considering the instructions, and applied the following:

1. Wash Car Thoroughly
2. Using Z6 spary and clay - clayed whole car down.
3. Cleaned car off with Z6
4. Applied one coat of Z5-Pro (didnt use ZFX - will come back to this)
5. Over whole car with Z8

next day

6. Over whole car with z6
7. Second coat of Z5 Pro (this time mixed with the correct ZFX additive)
8. Final wipe down with Z8.

So my questions...

1. Will I be punished for not using a detergent wash to remove all of the old polish prior to the clay bar process?
2. Will I be equally punished for not using the ZFX additive on the initial coat of Z5 Pro?
3. Depending on the answers to the above, what is my next logical step?

Thanks in advanced!!!!

JJ

1. You shouldn't need any special detergent wash before claying - the clay will remove pretty much everything from the paintwork anyway.

2.

Please note that if this is your first time using the Zaino system, ZFX or minimally Z-AIO is mandatory for use with Z-2 PRO, Z-3, or Z-5.
3. Well, you've clayed, polished (Z5) and sealed (Z8). You don't NEED to do anything else now. If you want to spend more time and effort, you could always find a nice wax to layer over the sealant though.

ZFX is only a catalyst to make the Z sealants cure quicker so you can add layers in a shorter timeframe.
Z-5 has fillers to mask lighter swirls, Z-2 would be your main sealant on clearcoats, and Z-3 on singlestage.
Z-6 is a QD, so presumably used prior to Z-5 the next day to remove any dust that'd settled on the paintwork, to avoid adding new swirls applying Z-5 layer #2?
If not, then there's no need for it between layers.

Z-8 is a short-duration sealant/hyper QD. It's for wiping down at a show like you would with a typical QD, but has sealant properties too.
DJ Red Mist is the same, as is Meg's Ultimate QD.

All in One would have been a bonus.....Z6 can be applied between coats to enhance gloss which I should imagine the op has noticed, I think the fillers in Z5 are negligible at best, clean clay and seal is whats been done, Z7 will help maintain as well, as has been stated Z8 is perfect for show days but it doesnt harm if you use it but dont show...There are no rules on shine where Zaino is concerned....just application....

Your first coat needs ZFX to activate the sealant. Zaino used to have a product (Z1 i think it was) that you applied before you first coat of Z2/Z5. This was replaced by using ZFX for the first coat.
If you dont use this, it wont bond properly. You'll no doubt get some protection, but you're not using it to its full potential.

ZFX is not applied as a separate product, but is an activator added to Z2, etc for the express purpose of speeding up the curing time between layers.
In other words, like AG EGP, Z2 would need the same 24 hours between applications, in order for it to cure.

ZFX does not add to the durability of the LSP.

you only need ZFX if you are applying more than one coat in a short amount of time....as PJS has said its purely for curing purposes, if you only want 1 coat you dont need zfx....

zfx is not a product that needs to be applied prior to using z2 or z5....not only would it be a waste of time it would be proper expensive as well....

Your fine if you left a day between first and second coat if it wasnt zfx'd. Typical system is wash, clay, Z-aio to clean and prepare for the sealant. sandwich Z6 betwen coats of sealant and final wipe down with Z8. You can alternatively use Z8 in exchange of Z6 but its a touch overkill. It should be fine but in futre always prepare the paint prior to sealant application to get best bond / contact of product to paint.
