Do clay bars go "off" ?

I've found that eventualy they start to crumble when they get older. I think this is down to the qd and sometimes some react with certain t&g removers if not rinsed properly.
If you look after them though they can last a while. I've been using them for about 5 years or so and have only gone through 3.
I know this is obvious but if you ever drop it, sling it straight in the bin. This is why I always cut mine in half. That way if I do drop it I've got some left.
